I am writing about the positive experience in using a logitech trackman
T-BC21 with Ubuntu Karmic.

I have a usb to ps/2 converter thing that cost me £1

Into this converter I plugged the usb connection of the trackman

No software install required - it simply works.

What it does for me:
Left click (large button on left)
Right click (large button on right)
Scrolling as per a normal mouse behaviour left right back forward and all
points inbetween.

What I do not use and have no strong opinion either way:
Some functionality to replace the scroll wheel on an enhanced mouse
(Once you have been using a trackball for a day I found I didn't miss the
scroll wheel at all
as the fine control of the trackball mean I can hit the scroll bars easily
and go that way)
Middle click is achieved with click of both left and right at the same time
but I never used that
   functionality anyway.

What I have not explored is the smaller inset left and right click buttons - I
probably never will as what works
today does the job for me :)

Here is the model info at logitech:

To Clarify: I did not download or install anything, neither did I have
to fiddle with xorg or any other complication.

The original bug report turned out to be a broken trackball rather than
an Ubuntu issue so this bug report can probably be closed.
