Public bug reported:

BUG:
Ubuntu 9.10 Device Support = It Doesn't on a Dell Inspiron 7500 for the
touchpad and modem.
Related to unanswered Questions 96549 for touchpad and 97029 for modem - but
lots of investigation notes by me.
The touchpad works sometimes, so I'll file a 'diff' file if it does. The modem
seems compiled and loaded correctly, just not recognised.
This version of Ubuntu has very poor device configuration and management, even
with the device manager application installed.

Here is the requested information about the system with non-working
touchpad and modem:

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Brand and Model Information

   Nothing in /var/lib/acpi-support
   System is Dell Inspiron 7500
