This is still an issue with Lucid upgraded up-to-date on 2010-01-17. Cold booting or even removing the battery before power-up doesn't help at all.
I also tried activating the Broadcom STA driver instead, but it just drops into a blank console and hard freezes before succeeding with the activation.
