Having the same here: clicking "Other ..." to log in with some user name
not displayed in the list, there is no password prompt. Subsequent
programs handling the login are given an empty password. It is possible
to log in, but only with an account not having set a password. --- Sure
you'll have to enable users to login with an empty password first :(

Maybe related: setting password change time to "0" makes gdm prompt for
a new password, after the old one correctly entered. The password is
asked twice. But after having entered the new password the second time,
you'll be prompted again with gdm's login screen. Trying the new
password fails. Trying the old one works. But since you are questioned
to change your password, you'll be trown out again after entering the
new password two times.
