@Geoff, To install those upstream kernels, I'd encourage you to ask for help in Ubuntuforums.org or IRC channels #ubuntu in freenode.net.
Anyway, you just only have to install those .deb i386. To do it, ensure yourself you have gDebi installed, and those deb will work with double clic. gDebi will take care of order. After that, you'll have new kernel on GRUB to start with. You can test with it, and report logs if needed. After trying, you can start with normal kernel, and delete 2.6.32 with Synaptic, if you want. -- [Dell Inc.
