I went to System/Time and Date to change from manual to synchronized with Internet servers. After unlocking with my password, my laptop shut off as soon as I clicked ' Select Servers'.
After rebooting, I was able to reproduce the error, but it hasn't happened since. It's possible there was something else going on with Lucid, as it shut down a few times when clicking links in Firefox as well. I can't describe the crash other than it went from powered up to totally shut off.
