Public bug reported:

Recently I updated Ubuntu on a frieds Acer Aspire 1310 from 9.04 to 9.10. After
the update I was not able to boot the system with the new kernel 2.6.31-17.
Instead I got the error message "No or unsupported WMI interface, unable to
load ... Mount of filesystem failed" and a root shell. Going back to 2.6.28-17
the system booted but there was no audio anymore. Eventually, I was able to
boot the system with 2.6.31-17 by blacklisting acer_wmi.
The laptop does not have a wlan card.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
