Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

There is no UserID option for Ricoh 4500, and I'm assuming this is true
of other Ricoh printers as well.

A UserID is needed in environments where the User Access option is open.

Before Karmic Koala the UserId option was hardcoded into the PPD and
there was default options of 1000, 1001, 1002, but now that has gone.

In Karmic Koala there is an option to put in other variables, but it
doesn't seem to be working if I set it and put in my UserID.

UserID NNN

I tried to manually set the UserID in the ppd file at

/etc/cups/ppd/ricoh4500.ppd

I posted an answer and left it here. Your question #98040 on system-
