Vaio and brightness control is unfortunately and old story... 
With FZ series "sudo nvclock -S -20" works, and I think it should work also 
with the SZ series. 
If it works, you can try to link the nvclock command with FN keys according to 
the information that you will find in this old bug report:

Recently I tested the same method on a CW series but it did non work.
Nvclock said that it was "unable to shadow the video bios".
