Vish: whatever the standard, default theme is (probably 'humanity-icon-
theme').  The "problem" is that when there's a connection, but no known
signal strength, a signal strength of zero is assumed... yet the fact
that there /is/ a connection should indicate otherwise.

One solution should be to increase the number of bars by one (and that
first one is always "active"), so that any time that there /is/ a
connection at least one of the bars will be displaying.
