And now it does it again. Something odd happened to gnome panel: it reshuffled all applets in random order, all on its own accord. I fixed that and locked it, but now it blocks the hot corners. If I disable the panel's "expand" option and let it shrink to the center, everything works as it should. With the panel expanded, the corners are blocked.
Before that strange event, whatever it was, which forced me to tweak the panel, and a system restart prior to that, I had not seen it interfere with compiz.
