As per the explanations in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/OpenOffice , I just tested with the Sun version of OpenOffice.org in a VM and it appears that the issue is limited to the Ubuntu build of OO so I will forward upstream to Go- OO.
