First: Thanks Brian for getting back so fast. I found the problem of "who", but not exactly "why". For some reason the "who" is my CD went bad. Now "why" a CD can gradually go south is another question. Extrernally, the thing looks perfect. It's pristine, no label, magic marker, not even a little pinky print, zip.
I tried getting into terminal mode and it'd hang. I tried with another PC (the one I'm using now). It'd boot to the startup logo then hang when selecting anything. I took it back to the first PC, now it also hangs at the logo. Cut myself another CD and life is good.... So if you're into arts & crafts using junk CDs, give me a call. Sorry for the false alarm.
