This started on my mother-in-law's laptop when she upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10. Laptop is a Compaq Evo N800v. Seems to be triggered by suspend/resume or heavy video usage. A reboot tends to find the filesystem corrupted. A coupe of days ago, I had to rescue the contents of the /home directory from lost+found!
