this is not neglected :)
can you try Herd 5 without usplash, ie. remove 'splash' from the kernel
boot parameters?
didier: casper might bind-mount /dev, and that could in fact be the
remedy for this and the numerous similar bugs that have been reported
recently. ("livecd detects badly, dpkg-reconfigure on an installed
system makes it ok")
