Well, I'm still experiencing the original problem - an endless loop via
https://login.launchpad.net/+openid (which is the screenshot given by
Ian Cunningham in comment #4).

Full sequence as follows.
1) Launch the app from Applications -> internet -> ubuntu One
2) Right-click on the taskbar icon and select "Go To Web"
3) Firefox opens a new tab at: https://one.ubuntu.com/
4) Click on the "Subscribe" link which takes me to https://one.ubuntu.com/plans/
5) Click on the "Subscribe" button for the 2GB plan.
6) Firefox goes to https://login.launchpad.net/+openid.
Firefox's history shows two additional pages:
        https://one.ubuntu.com/plans/plan/5/buy/
        https://one.ubuntu.com/auth/login/?next=/plans/plan/5/buy/
7) Information on this page looks OK. So click on the "Sign In" button.
8) Arrive back at https://login.launchpad.net/+openid
Firefox's history shows 4 additional pages:
      https://one.ubuntu.com/plans/plan/5/buy/
      https://one.ubuntu.com/auth/login/?next=/plans/plan/5/buy/
      https://login.launchpad.net/+decide

https://one.ubuntu.com/auth/complete/?next=%2Fplans%2Fplan%2F5%2Fbuy%2F&janrain_nonce=2010-01-27T08%3A57%3A16ZDBMQ5F&openid.assoc_handle=%7BHMAC-SHA1%7D%7B4b568261%7D%7BQgHdcQ%3D%3D%7D&openid.claimed_id=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.launchpad.net%2F%2Bid%2FPRY8f4H&openid.identity=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.launchpad.net%2F%2Bid%2FPRY8f4H&openid.lp.is_member=&openid.mode=id_res&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0&openid.ns.lp=http%3A%2F%2Fns.launchpad.net%2F2007%2Fopenid-teams&openid.ns.sreg=http%3A%2F%2Fopenid.net%2Fextensions%2Fsreg%2F1.1&openid.op_endpoint=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.launchpad.net%2F%2Bopenid&openid.response_nonce=2010-01-27T08%3A58%3A17ZpkdsWE&openid.return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fone.ubuntu.com%2Fauth%2Fcomplete%2F%3Fnext%3D%252Fplans%252Fplan%252F5%252Fbuy%252F%26janrain_nonce%3D2010-01-27T08%253A57%253A16ZDBMQ5F&openid.sig=%2BkfbLb2vc4RKlk99RN3CraaZm3E%3D&openid.signed=assoc_handle%2Cclaimed_id%2Cidentity%2Clp.is_member%2Cmode%2Cns%2Cns.lp%2Cns.sreg%2Cop_endpoint%2Cresponse_nonce%2Creturn_to%2Csigned%2Csreg.email%2Csreg.fullname%2Csreg.nickname&openid.sreg.email=nigel.hawkins%40inmail24.com&openid.sreg.fullname=Nigel+Hawkins&openid.sreg.nickname=nigel-hawkins-inmail24

Attempting to use Drew Snellgrove's work-around from comment #15 gives a
slightly different result.
4a) Click on the "Sign In" button which takes me directly to
https://login.launchpad.net/+openid
      History shows one additional page:
         https://one.ubuntu.com/auth/login/
5a) Again, the details look correct, so I click on the "Sign In" button.
6a) I now get a page which says "OpenID authentication failed: Nonce already
used or out of range"
      The URL seems to be:

https://one.ubuntu.com/auth/complete/?janrain_nonce=2010-01-27T09%3A07%3A58ZjpR1la&openid.assoc_handle=%7BHMAC-SHA1%7D%7B4b568261%7D%7BQgHdcQ%3D%3D%7D&openid.claimed_id=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.launchpad.net%2F%2Bid%2FPRY8f4H&openid.identity=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.launchpad.net%2F%2Bid%2FPRY8f4H&openid.lp.is_member=&openid.mode=id_res&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0&openid.ns.lp=http%3A%2F%2Fns.launchpad.net%2F2007%2Fopenid-teams&openid.ns.sreg=http%3A%2F%2Fopenid.net%2Fextensions%2Fsreg%2F1.1&openid.op_endpoint=https%3A%2F%2Flogin.launchpad.net%2F%2Bopenid&openid.response_nonce=2010-01-27T09%3A10%3A50ZFZ2DpY&openid.return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fone.ubuntu.com%2Fauth%2Fcomplete%2F%3Fjanrain_nonce%3D2010-01-27T09%253A07%253A58ZjpR1la&openid.sig=aCI1R4ezSrhmDHV9F85BA2%2Bh9XY%3D&openid.signed=assoc_handle%2Cclaimed_id%2Cidentity%2Clp.is_member%2Cmode%2Cns%2Cns.lp%2Cns.sreg%2Cop_endpoint%2Cresponse_nonce%2Creturn_to%2Csigned%2Csreg.email%2Csreg.fullname%2Csreg.nickname&openid.sreg.email=nigel.hawkins%40inmail24.com&openid.sreg.fullname=Nigel+Hawkins&openid.sreg.nickname=nigel-hawkins-inmail24

I've also tried creating a new launchpad ID to try and get round the
issue, but I get the same result.
