I have the exact same problem using the latest driver package for 2010-01-27, using Ubuntu Karmic, on a EeePC 1000H with a Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03). I'm not entirely sure what information would be required to help solve this issue, but would be willing to supply it, short of having to compile packages/install from source (kind of somewhat beyond my know- how).
dmesg has this: [drm:i915_gem_object_bind_to_gtt] *ERROR* Invalid object alignment requested 4096 Xorg.0.log.old has this towards the end: Backtrace: 0: /usr/bin/X(xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x8133dbb] 1: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x55) [0x80c1395] 2: [0xa0c400] 3: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so [0xb1b524] 4: /usr/bin/X [0x8181800] 5: /usr/bin/X [0x81545b3] 6: /usr/bin/X [0x8155617] 7: /usr/bin/X(Dispatch+0x35f) [0x808d1af] 8: /usr/bin/X(main+0x395) [0x8072515] 9: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe6) [0x1f1b56] 10: /usr/bin/X [0x80719c1] Saw signal 7.
