Hi Steve,
I think you are affected by bug 455544 so I'm marking it as such. In
order to get past this bug, please do the following:
1. Quit the Ubuntu One client
2. Delete ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
3. Use the proposed Karmic Ubuntu One update by following these directions:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+faq/930
4. Start the Update One client
