I tried to reproduce this issue in latest version included in Karmic and
works fine for me, running from a terminal "gksudo ls -la" (for
example) output right content. Please could you try to upgrade your
system to latest version and check if this problem is still affecting
you? Thanks in advance.

replace "sudo" in commands
