Herd 5, safe graphics mode, after selecting Shutdown or Restart, the LCD screen goes blank. I wait a while, screen still blank, until I assume it's gotten to the "press ENTER" line, then push enter. Still blank, it then goes on to shutdown or restart.
By the way, booting up normal (not safe graphics), about when Gnome is started the screen goes blank. I push Enter and the display comes back. Note this blank screen does not occur with Edgy or Dapper or PCLinuxOS or Simply Mepis or ...
