Hi, yes you can do so but the next update from the system is going to delete your working installation. Therefore remove the check for updating the libsane file in synaptic every time. I use the working version libsane 1.0.19-23ubuntu7 instead of the newest suggested version libsane 1.0.20-4ubuntu3. Be careful and save your work. Regards Peter

I was tired so the instructions were not clear to my tired little head but once I figured it out, it worked fine. Thank you. For those easily confused like myself: 1) goto System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager, search for SANE and mark for complete removal of sane packages installed. 2) Close Synaptic Package Manager 3) Following Henrik Daver's instructions from 2009-11-19 click on the link to down load libsane for your install. (at the bottom and choose a mirror on next screen) 4) It will ask what you want to do with the file and select open. 5) It then says something about wanting to install this when a new version exists, yes you do. 6) Click the install at the top right part of the screen when that comes up. 7) When that is done go back to System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager, search for SANE 8) Install a front end, Xsane. You should be good to go.
