Changes for the volume and network switch have been incorporated in the linux kernel since this commit: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=a195dcdcff33b8ef01a23cbc489fdfcdfa28c88e
Those changes have been chipped with kernel 2.6.29 and are in Karmic. It can still be required to manually add the eeepc-laptop kernel module but aside of that, everything should work out of the box.
