Public bug reported: I have two USB -> RS232 adapters which I want to use in Linux. The first one (unsure about brand) works perfectly fine, but the other one doesn't.
The device /dev/ttyS0 will be created and then removed with 5 second intervals. Relative dmesg and lsusb output as follows: [ 9842.132000] usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 78 [ 9842.316000] usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 9842.316000] ftdi_sio 1-2:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected [ 9842.316000] drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c: Detected FT8U232AM [ 9842.316000] usb 1-2: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0 --- [ 9845.496000] usb 1-2: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by ftdi_sio while 'brltty' sets config #1 [ 9845.496000] usb 1-2: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by ftdi_sio while 'brltty' sets config #1 [ 9845.500000] ftdi_sio ttyUSB0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0 [ 9845.500000] ftdi_sio 1-2:1.0: device disconnected This will repeat indefinitly Device: Bus 001 Device 079: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd 8-bit FIFO This might be relative: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/81915 but it's "Fixed".
