1) I uninstalled BTNX.
2) Had some changes in the xorg-backclear PPA by Felix Kuehling at bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351186 .
3) I was noticing that whenever I launched certain composite-extension binaries
it would default to software only rendering. I confirmed that my xorg.conf has
the following:
Section "DRI"
Group "video"
Mode 0666
EndSection
, but it did not help. I checked to fix the permissions of
/dev/dri/card0, but that did not exist per some other recommendations.
I then did a search for "card0" and saw that it existed in
"/dev/ati/card0". I changed permissions there and found that it fixed
the software only rendering issue for Compiz.
So, I don't know what fixed my issue. If this leads anyone to some
track of what could have occurred, I would appreciate hearing. I now
don't see the delay, although I do see a text prompt before KDM is
starts up. I can live with that.
