Also I have been running rhythmbox without using any plug-ins as I suspected 
that they may have been causing the problem, which they weren't of course. It 
is only with the latest version of Ubuntu that I have been having this problem 
with the earlier version of Ubuntu 9 rhythmbox worked perfectly. As an 
additional note the same problem occurs when I try to play mp3's through the 
Movie Player. I hope this helps clear this up as I really like the look and 
feel of rhythmbox. As stated above if there is any more information I can give 
which may help just ask!
