I experience similar network dropouts, approximately since upgrading to Karmic last November. Dmesg reports are similar to post #59 and others.
I can be reproduced this effectively by use of higher load sent-receive communications, such as Skype. The connections drop within 30 minutes of Skype audio conversation (with a video feed added the chances also increase). I say sent-receive communications, because watching a streamed (HD) movie with much more received data does not produce the issue necessarily. In my 'normal' use of browsing and sending emails the issue occurs once in 1-5 hours. A 'sudo rmmod iwlagn;sudo modprobe iwlagn' does not restore wifi network, as reported here http://bugzilla.intellinuxwireless.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2037. A reboot is required. There are still some things missing in wicd, so that would not work well for me as a solution.
