Brian, Ciaran, It seems that I am having the same issue with not being able to access my USB peripherals or change the Users/Groups. I also do not have the file /etc/gdm/custom.conf. Unfortunately I don't have another install of Karmic to copy from. Can you tell me what was in this file that is needed. thanks!
