I am not an "Average" user, I suppose, but this bug IS happening on a pretty
much vanilla installation, with changes unrelated to gnome-screensaver. Even
the mention of compiz is to "help" identify the problem, and does not introduce
it...
I do believe a single developer stumbling upon this might be readily able to
fix it in a few hours, so I am volunteering it as a Paper Cut.
If it is rather more complicated than I originally thought, I do apologize...
