I updated my system today (apt-get update) and the updates included an update
for the package gtk-qt-engine.

When I chose Gnome as my session and then logged in, QT was drawing Gnome's
nautilus instead of its native GTK. I did not get to see if gnome-panel was
being drawn with QT because the panels wouldn't load at all even after a
reboot. (Not sure if its related).

The settings in kcontrol for this package do not fix the issue. Regardless of
which option you choose, QT is used for Nautilus rather than its native GTK.

My suggestion (I'm by no means an expert) is to move gtk-qt's initialization
file to a place only KDE can see it, so the file that triggers gtk-qt will be
hidden from Gnome.
