Public bug reported: Please sync gtkspell 2.0.16-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main). It will save memory and potentially fix bug #364253 (at least in some cases of similar spell-checking not working in Pidgin, virtaal and others where the singleton fix http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2642198&group_id=7896&atid=107896 helps). Gtkspell 2.0.16-1 would be in Debian testing already if it wasn't for outdated hppa + mips builds.
Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped: Looks like the only change in Ubuntu packaging (besides packaging a newer upstream version) was adding symbols, and the symbol list seems to include the same symbols in the new Debian version.
