Public bug reported: On a default install of Ubuntu Edgy (6.10) on a Dell Inspiron 9100, the volume controls above the keyboard and the volume applet fail to change the volume in Rhythmbox etc.
The problem is that they control the master volume, but due to a hardware bug in Ispiron 9100s, the onboard volume is actually controlled by the headphone volume. The fix is to flag this to the audio driver by adding a file "/etc/modprobe.d/sound" containing- options snd-intel8x0 ac97_quirk=hp_only and then run "sudo update-modules". A similar bug was discussed in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=120488 This problem has been noted by others on the web. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- On Inspiron 9100 the volume and mute controls on the keyboard don't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/90349 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
