Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups
I searched the old bugs and the community forums old postings as well, and, as far as I can see the following problem has never been addressed. The postings I saw, most of which had no replies and no notices of forthcoming repairs, were along the lines of my posting, which also has had no response from any quarter. I'm on an HP Pavillion, 160 Gig hard drive, 2 Gigs Ram, Intel Processor, 2.9 Gig speed. I'm hooked up to an HP 1012 Laser. This laser has good toner, since I'm printing great text on Ubuntu all day on it. Graphics, on Windows and Mac, with this printer and computer, come out excellently. But graphics always come out bad when on Ubuntu, even if Ubuntu is printing flawless text. The very few responses folks got from old posts, fizzled out fast. Both myself and others were told to get to admin, then to print controls. We all found the print controls and tried upping the dpi andthe very few other standard answers. But then when the first few tried didn't work, the postings stopped and everyone gave up. One post with an identical set of problems to mine, simply got no responses at all, next to other postings with hundreds of responses, so it looks like this one is s sticky one. The HP computer and printer are both in perfect condition and fully tuned and sharp. I'm a multi- platform guy who can run Linux, Mac and Windows, so I was surprised when no one could come up with an answer that would work for me. I'm devoted to Ubuntu, so, for now, if I have to print a graphic to send to someone by snail mail, I must go to the local office supply store and pay to have them print them out. Hopefully we can deal with this because, until this graphics thing hit, I was starting to sell people on the idea of this system. I'll stick with Ubuntu myself and endure inconvenience because I'm a believer, but other folks won't be able to adopt, nor can I recommend for non-geeks to adopt, if they can't simply print out a Map Quest map or photo they saw online. Please let me know if, or when, any progress could be made on this.
