Hi, Perhaps this insistent graphics problem when updating linux, it has to do with having installed privative graphics drivers.
Today I updated Linux 2.6.31-17 to Linux 2.6.31-19 and the said problem happened once again when restarting the laptop, though this time I could get to the desktop with a previous error message (pls. see attached file). So, I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst 9.12 drivers, then restarted the laptop and.. Everything worked OK with not privative graphics codecs, but with the Ubuntu original ones. Now I have installed the new ATI Catalyst 10.1 drivers and the whole thing just works like a charm again. Therefore, it seems that I should UNINSTALL the privative graphic drivers BEFORE updating Linux, then re-installing them after the Linux update.
