You did not test SpliX. You do not need to download SpliX from OpenPrinting, the version supplied by Ubuntu already supports your printer, and it supports it explicitly, you can directly choose the CLP-610 in system-config-printer. Please test SpliX, as I am planning to make it the recommended driver to work around your printer's firmware bug.
