ARRGHH and RATS.

the current lucid live does not boot cleanly. with safe graphics mode
set, it boots, but the install craps out just after keyboard.

I tried doing a suspend from the live cd. It goes down to suspend OK,
but doesn't come back (screen never lights, though fan and keyboard LEDs
come back to life).

What happens if I try to drop in a new kernel? How do I do that? I
presume I can boot to the previous version, but how do I get rid of
that?

(sorry for all those "I've never tried to do THIS with Ubuntu"
questions).

If that seems too difficult to answer, I'll put Karmic on the spare disk
and install the new kernel on top of that.
