The LiveCD is going to be using an older kernel. Could you post the
output of the following commands:
$ lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Atheros
$ uname -a
Here's the output from my system:
$ lspci -nnk | grep -A2 Atheros

802.11abg NIC [168c:1014] (rev 01)
