** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

I have a Lenovo X60 with an external docking station, and an external
  monitor attached.

When I dock the laptop, and press Fn+f7 to activate the external
  monitor, the following happens:

  1. My gnome theme is changed from DarkRoom to (I guess?) the standard theme.
  2. The monitor is activated with the laptop screen set up to the left of the
external monitor.
  3. Using gnome-display-properties or xrandr to change the layout, does
nothing and gives no error message.
  4. After logging out and in again, my gnome theme comes back to DarkRoom and
gnome-display-properties works OK.

  1. and 3. are the problem.
