Somehow this seems to be fixed now? I updated/upgraded the kernel a couple of days ago and I didn't need to fix it this time! I'm not sure how they managed that because AFAIK grub2 wasn't updated (just the kernel) so perhaps I will still need to do it again after a grub2 update? I hope not!
