I installed and updated Lucid tonight on my Toshiba M45-S269 and am
having the same issue. When starting with the AC adapter plugged in, I
have to invoke  cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state to get gnome-power-
manager to recognize the battery. (I haven't tried booting from
battery.) So I'm not so sure that the problem has actually gone away.
