I take it the solution was to edit /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98-video- quirk-db-handler and remove "add_parameters --quirk-no-chvt" in the using_nvidia block. Well I did that, and sorry, I see no difference at all.
The screen is still garbled and it takes some virtual-terminal switching until the mouse pointer turns up and I can see the screen saver's login prompt.
