Public bug reported:
kernel 2.6.31-14-generic in AMD64 release of KUbuntu 9.10 on Dell m6400 quad
core with NVidia mobile graphics
When I select "suspend to RAM" from the application launcher, it
suspends successfully, as indicated by the fan stopping and the power
light slowly turning on and off.. however, when I hit the power button
to bring it back, it appears to resume, but the screen stays blank. No
combination of hitting keys, or touchpad, or anything else can get the
screen back on! End up holding power button down until it turns off,
then have to endure the filesystem being repaired and losing stuff (like
recent settings changes and desktop configuration) when reboot.
Been surfing the web, and it appears that this happens to many people
when go from 9.04, where suspend works fine, to 9.10, where it still
works, except if they do a clean install, then it stops working. This
is my first install of Linux on this laptop, so it's a clean install.
Possibly unrelated, the menu entry for "logout" and "restart" and "power
off" don't work at all -- I have to open a terminal and "sudo shutdown
-h now" to exit!
