Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on a brand new HP Envy 15 laptop. This
laptop does not have an internal optical drive, but ships with an
external DVD drive.

When booting up with the Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 installer, one gets to the
install menu fine. But selecting either the live system or the installer
will result in a little bit of the Ubuntu logo, and afterwards a busybox
prompt within initramfs, saying that its unable to find a live
filesystem.

The same thing happens when one installs the Windows boot menu via
wubi.exe. the same happens with Ubuntu 9.04 as well.

Creating a bootable SD card doesn't work either, as the laptop is not
willing to boot from the SD card.

** Affects: ubuntu
