The problem seems to be more serious and far reaching! That is, I am now
unable to execute sudo su from the terminal; i.e., the following occurs:
vir...@virgil-desktop:~$ sudo su
sudo: must be setuid root
and being a newbie to Ubuntu, I do not know how to handle this from
here.
Also, I am unable to execute the following:
Administration -> Software Sources
Administration -> Synaptic Program Manager
That is, when I try these, a "busy icon" is shown for a few seconds and
then disappears , and the programs are not executed.
The source of the problem may have been an attempted update of 5
packages this morning. When I turned on my computer, a few seconds after
my desktop appeared, I got a popup (Software updates are available for
this computer):
Important security updates
gnome-screensaver
libmysqlclient16
mysql-common
Recommended updates
python-ubuntuone-client
python-ubuntuone-storageprotocol
Of course, I tried to install them; but, this hung up the update manager
--- I had to close it after several minutes.
