When using the $http_proxy variable I've seen that apt-get does not work at all. If I do "export http_proxy=localhost:8888" I get an error message telling me "Could not connect to 8888:80" and if I set this to "http://localhost:8888"; I get an "open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)" error.
