I do not agree. You say that simple-scan and every other frontend should implement the ability to configure the backend. This is bad design because: 1) There is no interoperability between frontends (user must configure each frontend). 2) Every frontend author should take effort and write the code. 3) Code duplication. Please tell if it's hard to implement global backend option and why.
