I am still having this problem - exactly as described here. Installed
ubuntu using LVM and added another physical harddrive to the
volumegroup. Everything worked, except for the latest kernel update:

Setting up linux-image-2.6.31-20-generic (2.6.31-20.57) ...
Running depmod.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-20-generic
Running postinst hook script /usr/sbin/update-grub.
Generating grub.cfg ...
Segmentation fault
User postinst hook script [/usr/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 139
dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.31-20-generic (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 139

Is there anything i can do manually to get the grub scripts to work
again? Do you need any more information from my machine on this?
