I am running Dapper and have the same issue. The screen freezes but I am still able to ssh into the machine, as well as access SAMBA shares. Although I would describe it as freezing while using xscreensaver, as opposed to freezing when returning from xscreensaver, since the screensaver itself freezes as well.
I then have to reboot the computer in order to access X again. xorg.conf tells me that the video card is a "Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G400 AGP". I will try to attach my xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, and dmesg output.
