Public bug reported:

After not upgrading my Lucid box for several days, I upgraded today and
rebooted to find that I had no sound. Going to DebuggingSoundProblems I
was asked to run alsamixer. Doing so results in:

$ alsamixer
ALSA lib conf.c:3272:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library
libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib control.c:902:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

Checking the previous version, 1.0.22-0ubuntu3:
$ dpkg -L libasound2-plugins|grep pulse
/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_ctl_pulse.so
/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
/usr/share/doc/libasound2-plugins/README-pulse
/usr/share/doc/libasound2-plugins/examples/a52.conf_pulse

Checking the current version, 1.0.22-0ubuntu4:
$ dpkg -L libasound2-plugins|grep pulse
/usr/share/doc/libasound2-plugins/README-pulse
/usr/share/doc/libasound2-plugins/examples/a52.conf_pulse
