Andreas, I found an existing bug report for my hardware and marked it as applying to me (#234519). There are actually dozens of similar bug reports for various hardware (just search for "second resume"), many of which I suspect are all due to the kernel bug I linked to earlier. It doesn't actually apply to me anymore, unfortunately, since my wife insisted that I re-install Windows. I can't really blame her, considering a laptop that can't suspense/resume isn't terribly useful. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
