Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates.
Any chance someone kept the upgrade logs from /var/log/dist-upgrade or
the logs from a new install in /var/log/installer ? I know it has been a
very long time, but sometimes... I am not able to reproduce this issue
on my systems, installing 8.10, adding all the updates, then upgrading
to 9.04 using update-manager.
